Avoid Getting Complaints

Updated: Aug 9, 2021

Students file complaints if they find our service unsatisfactory or unacceptable. Getting a complaint may result to coaching sessions, warnings, monetary penalty, page prohibition, or worse, SA cancellation.

Here are some common complaints, let’s avoid doing them!

1. Time Management

Complete a full 25-minute class. Start and finish the lesson or activities on time. Manage the lesson time well by following the suggested lesson flow.

2. Pronunciation

Minimize your pronunciation slips. Make sure to pronounce short and long vowel sounds correctly as well as problematic consonant. Use proper syllable stress pattern and practice speaking with a neutral accent.

3. Enthusiasm

Maintain energy and enthusiasm throughout the lesson. Make the lesson interesting and interactive by making the topic relevant to the student's personal experience. Get the student smile and have fun in class.

4. Lesson Management

Focus on the lesson and avoid distractions such as non-class related activity like online games, group chats, talking with someone, browsing irrelevant sites or using mobile phones. Give 100% attention to the student throughout the lesson.

5. Professionalism

Always project the ideal image of a 51Talk Online Educator. Dress in a respectable manner, be seated professionally and secure a quiet and well-lit teaching area with clutter-free background. Portray a positive attitude. Observe proper language usage. Avoid covering your camera during the lesson nor leave your student unattended.

6. Lesson Memo

Properly fill out the lesson memo with the target language which includes pronunciation errors, grammar errors, and your assessment of the student's over-all performance. Make sure to post lesson memo with content that transpired during the lesson.

Always give your best in all your lessons, Teachers! Next week, we are going to talk about Zero Tolerance Policy. Stay tuned! Written by: Melanie Lawang
