Work From Home Tips: Proper Attire

Updated: Aug 9, 2021

When people work from home, they immediately think that they can log in wearing their pajamas or the comfiest clothes they have because, well, they're at home. There's no need for them to dress up because no one's going to call them out. That's where the problem lies. Even though you're working from home, you're still WORKING. At work, they expect you to be professional. Not because you're at home doesn't mean that the rules won't apply to you, teacher. Recently, more teachers have been getting complaints from students about them not wearing appropriate clothing in classes. Upon checking, some of them were not in their best appearance (read: bed head, no makeup), some are still wearing their sleepwear, and there are a couple of instances where teachers wear spaghetti strap tops because "it's hot here." Yes, we know that it's the summer season already, but that doesn't mean that we cannot look prim and polished at home. Still worried? Worry no more, we're here to help you. Here are some tips on how to dress professionally while #WFH: 1. Wear something comfortable. By comfortable, we don't mean your ragged shirt that you wear when you go to bed, or your silk nightgown from the night before. You can wear clothes made from thin fabrics, like cotton or silk. These fabrics absorb sweat, are airy, and they look presentable as well. Wearing a cotton shirt and a thin cardigan while having classes is okay. You can just take the cardigan off in between classes, don't worry. 2. Do not wear sleeveless tops. We know that it's much more comfortable, but we need to look PROFESSIONAL. The students have this mindset that their teachers are working in offices, so no one in their right mind would wear a tank top to work. Also, do not wear spaghetti strap tops, clothes with plunging necklines, and too loose or too tight clothes. It would make you feel uncomfortable especially the tight clothes. 3. Mix and match. We do not require you to splurge on revamping your wardrobe. Just learn how to mix and match from what you already have, and make it look professional. 4. Invest on collared shirts. It would be very helpful if you can wear collared shirts in classes. It gives you the feel that you're casual but still professional. It doesn't need to be branded or expensive. You can buy from thrift stores or even in the market. 5. Carry yourself professionally. Lastly, no article of clothing would make you feel professional if you would not carry yourself with an air of elegance and sophistication. Wake up early, take a bath, do some simple hair and makeup and put on that comfy collared top from the thrift store. Who knows that you're wearing a PHP 150 top? As long as you carry yourself with style, no one would notice.

We hope that these tips would be of help to you. Let's make it #WorkFromHome, teachers! Written by: Lorry Virgo
